Application
Although Lining Kote can be applied by non-professionals, SPI recommends using a SPI certified applicator.
Preparation:
- Surface must be clean and completely dry, with no loose debris or particles, rust, dirt, oil, films or residues of any kind. Lining-Kote will cover previous coatings if they are fully adhered to the surface
- Mechanically stir base
- Mix curing agent into base and let sit for 30 minutes before applying
Application methods:
- Airless or Pot Sprayed: tip size .017-.019
- Roller or brush
- Add an additional coat for vertical surfaces
Applied rate:
- 130 sq. ft./gal. (12.3 sq.m./gal.)
- Applied to two or three coat thicknesses according to use
Film thickness:
- Wet: 6 mils (150 microns)
- Dry: 3 mils (75 microns)
Temperature:
- 32° F (0°C) – 100° F (38° C)
- Colder temperatures will increase dry time
Dry times:
- 4 hours to touch
- Minimum 12 hours to recoat
Full cure:
- 60 days at 70° F (20° C) before submerging in acid or chemical solutions
- If non acid, or strong solutions, 7 day cure can be allowed
Precautions:
- 1.5 hour pot life
Limitations:
- As with any epoxy, Lining-Kote will chalk and lose gloss when exposed to UV rays
- Do not use directly on food preparation surfaces
- Do not apply over chlorinated rubber. Even after sandblasting, the chlorination can attack the solvents and make the coating brittle
